About David Tian, Ph.D.

David Tian has lived in several countries, including Singapore, where he was a tenure-track professor in the Department of Philosophy at the National University of Singapore, specializing in philosophical psychology, moral psychology, Asian philosophy, the philosophy of religion, and ethics. He has a Ph.D. and two Masters degrees from the University of Michigan and a Masters and Bachelors degree from the University of Toronto. Dr. Tian has held numerous academic fellowships, including from Harvard, Princeton, Peking University, Tsinghua University in Beijing, The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the University of Toronto, McGill University. For much of his life, he has been a professional academic and grounds his teachings on rigorous academic research, including from such diverse fields and disciplines as psychology, philosophy, biology, neuroscience, sociology, Asian cultural studies, literature, history, and the cutting edge of interdisciplinary research in the behavioral sciences.

His decades-long track record in academics has provided David with a well-rounded skill set in the disciplines of Asian cultures, psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, sociology, literature, history, and behavioral sciences. Furthermore, Dr. Tian has research knowledge of Modern Chinese, Classical Chinese, Japanese, French, and Biblical Greek. Known for his expertise in the field of philosophical psychology, David has numerous academic publications and more publications forthcoming. Dr. Tian has also delivered academic presentations around the world.

Dr. Tian is a Certified IFS Therapy Practitioner (Level 3). In addition to training in advanced levels of Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS Therapy), over the past several years, Dr. Tian has also completed formal training in advanced Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gestalt Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Psychodrama, Tony Robbins-Cloe Madanes Coaching, as well as other evidence-based methods. Dr. Tian uses a combination of these approaches in his therapeutic coaching of individuals and groups. This vast skill set, training, and experience have given David a solid foundation to help men and women in many areas of their lives.
